Arts Council England and the publishing industry have worked together for several years to promote diversity within the book trade. Among many successful initiatives have been the establishment of DipNet, the Diversity in Publishing Network, a Diversity Traineeships programme in partnership with publishers, a conference on Diversity and Children's Literature, and a retail promotion targeted at black and minority ethnic audiences. The Arts Council England Diversity Award in Literature celebrates an organisation or individual who has, in the past year, made an outstanding contribution to the promotion of diversity within the world of books and literature.
